The new Visitor Centre will be home to a scheme of interpretation telling the story of this 170-year-old, internationally significant historic park. With content suitable for children, adults, local residents as well as those from further afield – the hidden stories of this incredible park will be brought to life for all.

A new Visitor Centre

The new single-storey building will replace the existing Information Centre while reusing its concrete foundation – an approach that greatly reduces the project’s carbon footprint compared with a complete rebuild. The new Visitor Centre has been designed to feel part of the park. Its timber frame and natural finishes reflect the surrounding landscape. Over time, the materials will weather gently, helping the building blend in with the parkland around it.

Visitor Centre interpretation

In the Visitor Centre’s Interpretation and Activity Room, the park’s story comes to life through engaging displays, historic objects, and information panels. Visitors will be able to explore the park’s long and varied history, create connections today, and learn more about future regeneration projects.

Improved signage and wayfinding

As part of the Regeneration Works, new signage and wayfinding will be installed. These elements have been designed to reflect the park’s unique character and heritage, while helping park visitors find their way around more easily. Upgrades to the park’s signage and wayfinding will make exploring the park clearer, more engaging, and enjoyable for everyone.
