What’s involved?

There are many different ways to get involved and help make the park an even better place.

You could be supporting the smooth running of our free programme of events and activities for neighbouring communities, welcoming visitors and providing information to help them enjoy their trip, keeping the park clean, tidy and beautiful through our gardening programme, or working on more 'behind the scenes' but vital tasks such as research.

Whether you want to drop in occassionally, or make volunteering a regular part of your routine, we have something for you. Plus you’ll be joining a friendly, supportive, and enthusiastic community in your neighbourhood!

How do I get involved?

When we have volunteer opportunities, we will share them here and via our monthly e-newsletter, The Transmitter.

If you can't spot the perfect opportunity for you right now, you can register your interest below and the team will be in touch with more opportunities as they become available.

Do I need skills or experience?

  • No! Just enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and be a team player
  • Our roles are available to people aged 18 and over and we welcome people from all backgrounds to our community.
  • Some of our roles (for example roles in our events and learning activities) will require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and we may need to ask you about any unspent convictions as part of our duty of care. If you would like to speak to us beforehand about any unspent convictions we will be happy to discuss this with you.

What support is provided?

  • Varied opportunities with the chance to build new skills and relationships in your local community.
  • Training and support from a dedicated Volunteer Officer.
  • Out of pocket expenses for travel up to a maximum of £16.60 (the cost of a zone 1-6 travelcard).

We want our volunteer roles to be as accessible as possible. If you have a disability or long-term health condition and you would like support to volunteer, please get in touch with us and we will be happy to chat about adjustments or support.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund is the largest funder for the UK’s heritage. Using money raised by National Lottery players we support projects that connect people and communities to heritage. Our vision is for heritage to be valued, cared for and sustained for everyone, now and in the future. From historic buildings, our industrial legacy and the natural environment, to collections, traditions, stories and more. Heritage can be anything from the past that people value and want to pass on to future generations. We believe in the power of heritage to ignite the imagination, offer joy and inspiration, and to build pride in place and connection to the past.
